Gulf Coast birding is in full swing. Mississippi birders are among the leaders nationwide in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, which recently wrapped up.

Kayaking photo-journalist Rob Nykvist had a busy weekend. Rob toured the Mobile River on Saturday and Dauphin Island on Sunday. Rob visited Sand Island by kayak, where he did a little birding. This Brown Pelican, and other shots at Rob's site clearly show that if you want to get close to Dauphin Island's birds you have an advantage in a kayak.
Winter of '06 is drawing to a close. With spring comes the annual migration.
Birders of all stripes flock to Florida this time of year to witness the event and welcome our feathered friends home for another year.
