It looks like there is a new entrant in the highly competitive Destin condo market. Look for construction to begin on a new high-rise extended-stay hotel in Destin sometime in early 2006. The county commissioners approved the 14 story, 200 foot tall construction project yesterday. The building will be situated near Destin Commons, and will feature views of both the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay from the top floors.
The hotel will be called the Legendary Grande Suite Hotel. It is planned to have 194-room extended-stay vacation rental units. 188 units will be suites. The remaining six will be penthouses.
The developer also plans to have a well-known restaurant in the facility on the ground level.
Amenities will include 24 hour room service, a banquet and meeting facility, and a swimming pool - complete with cabanas - on the roof.
