Pensacola Beach Hotel Coming Down

The way has been cleared for demolition of another landmark in Pensacola Beach. The Clarion Resort is coming down.

The Clarion was damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The popular Pensacola Beach hotel was built on a concrete slab foundation and could not be repaired in compliance with updated construction codes. With the last insurance settlement checks in hand, developers are beginning the process of razing the Clarion.

The Sun Ray Village Owners Association, owners of the Clarion, have received approval from the Santa Rosa Island Authority to redevelop the property with a housing density of 50 units per acre. The currently approved density limit is 30 units per acre. Should plans be approved, this could provide for a new construction for a 20 story tower with up to 200 new units on the site.
