Parrot Heads help charity
Members of the Towns Around Biloxi Parrot Head Club, working with Parrot Heads from clubs in Alabama, helped raise more than $14,000 for charity in March.
In April a solo fundraising Poker Run event raised an additional $875 for the South Mississippi Division of the Alzheimer's Foundation of the South.
Two checks from these fundraisers were presented recently by David Barnes, club president, to Rosemary Hudgins, executive director of the South Mississippi Division of the Alzheimer's Foundation of the South.
The first event, "Stars Fell On Alabama," was held March 9-12 at the Island House Hotel and Live Bait in Orange Beach, Ala., and LuLu's Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, Ala. This annual weekend event, in its seventh year, featured a silent auction, raffles and sponsorships recognized through an event T-shirt. It drew Parrot Heads from all over the country and benefited not only the Alzheimer's Foundation of the South, South Mississippi Chapter, but also the Salvation Army in Mobile and Baldwin counties of Alabama; the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores, and the Family Sunshine Center in Montgomery.
