We just checked Rob Nykvist's latest entry and found he'd been kayaking out to the north end of Sand Island where he snapped this photo - click for a full-sized version. Rob paddled all the way out to the end of Sand Island to take this photo of Sand Island, the Dauphin Island Fishing Pier, and all three Dauphin Island condo developments.
Dauphin Island Condo Construction Update
In a follow up to recent stories (see below) about how the market is firming up for Dauphin Island real estate, today seems like a good time to have a look at the current state of construction on the various Dauphin Island condo developments.
Holiday Isle - Construction continues on the Holiday Isle. This is the 144 unit Dauphin Island condo development just to the east of the Dauphin Island Beach Club on the site of the old Holiday Inn. The development is completely sold out, and is slated to open in early 2007.
Royal Dauphine and Capri I and II - Development of Dauphin Island's newest condos, Royal Dauphine and the Capri I and II, is still on the drawing boards. Developers of the Royal Dauphine plan to build 311 Dauphin Island condo units. Construction of the Capri I awaits the sale of a remaining few units to vacation condo owner-investors. When a certain percentage of the development has been sold, construction financing will be approved and construction can begin.

Dauphin Island's Capri 1 Nearing Construction Start
Condo developer John D. Hunter, Jr.'s "Capri 1" Dauphin Island condo proposal is very close to securing the financing he needs to move ahead with development.
The Capri 1 is a 26 unit complex proposed for Dauphin Island. All of the luxury condos are located on the beach front and incorporate the latest in upgraded features - high ceilings, stainless steel appliances, granite, and ice maker in the wet bar area and jetted tub and marble shower in the master bath.
