Herb Malone, director of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, said there's a misperception that the Alabama resorts were damaged by Katrina because they are near the Aug. 29 hurricane's major destruction in Mississippi and Louisiana.
But it was Hurricane Ivan in 2004 that damaged Alabama's coast. Malone said the beach resorts now have almost as many rental units available as before Ivan struck.
